Speech Milestones

Although developmental rates vary, here is a guide of speech milestones to monitor before your child turns nine.

Age 3: m; n; ng (e.g. king); p; h; b; g; k; w; y (e.g. yes); d; t

Age 3 - 6: f

Age 4: I; ch; sh

Age 4 - 6: j; z; s

Age 5: r

Age 6: v; consonant blends (e.g. dread)

Age 8: voiced th (e.g. then)

Age 8 - 6: voiceless th (i.e. thin).
